In 2013 MSF was able to extend the lead poisoning treatment programme that began in 2010 in Zamfara State to the village of Bagega. First the soil, polluted by artisanal gold mining, had to be remediated. In addition, our emergency team responded to a measles outbreak in Zamfara and two other northern states, treating nearly 48,000 patients.
