Swaziland

Our first 55 Swazi patients with multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) were declared cured in 2013, after enduring an intensive 2-year treatment regimen, unfortunately often with serious side effects. MSF additionally offers its MDR-TB patients practical and mental health support. The team carries out research and advocacy work to improve the diagnosis and treatment of MDR-TB. In 2014 a shorter (9-month) treatment regimen will be introduced. Swaziland faces alarming rates of HIV/AIDS and TB.
